The volume of different gases produced by active volcanoes is an important factor in their monitoring and in the formulation of models to explain their behaviour. Gas fluxes can be measured by satellites or at closer proximity using different types of spectrometers. The recent development and application of mini-UV spectrometers has made it much easier to measure the emission of SO2 of volcanoes. The flux from Volcán de Colima is being monitored using these techniques. Two scanning stations will be installed to provide continuous measurement in real time.
