Evaluating the volcanic hazards of Isla Socorro

Although there has not been any significant sub-aerial eruption in recent times, a submarine flank eruption in 1993 confirms the need for hazard assessment at Isla Socorro. An integrated study using various geophysical and geochemical techniques has investigated the active hydrothermal system. Geochemical monitoring of fumaroles, soil gas emission and spring waters will determine any temporal variation, which could be related to renewed activity.
